What happens on the day
A stone’s throw away from the famous Liberty’s department store and the shopping paradise of Bond Street, Regent Street and Carnaby Street, the Courthouse Hotel is situated in a former Grade II Listed Magistrates Court, retaining much of its original historical features, with a modern twist.
Within the hotel sits a 94-seat private cinema showing a range of classical, romantic and action films ranging from The Notebook, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and many more. With screenings every Saturday evening at 20.00 and a different film every week, you are guaranteed to find a film that suits you.
Before the viewing you can relax with a Champagne cocktail in the hotel’s quirky bar, complete with its original features from what was the Great Marlborough Street Magistrate’s Court. Many famous names, from Oscar Wilde (who took the Marquess of Queensbury to court on a criminal slander charge), Mick Jagger (for a series of fines) and the famous case against John Lennon in 1970 over images in the London Art Gallery, passed through the court over the years. Charles Dickens even worked here as a reporter for the Morning Chronicle in 1835! It has now been refurbishment into a magnificent 5* hotel. The Bar, with its original prison cell blocks as cosy seating areas, is the ideal place to enjoy a Champagne cocktail of your choice, before relaxing and watching your chosen film.
