Enjoy a day out in Sussex and take a trip on a steam train before wandering through some beautiful botanical gardens on this Bluebell Railway Steam Train and Visit to Wakehurst for Two.

The Bluebell Railway is a heritage line running along the border between East and West Sussex, taking you through beautiful scenery while you sit in a lovingly preserved steam train carriage. With the second largest collection of steam trains and carriages in the UK, there’s plenty for fans of the steam engine to take a look at. The various stations en-route have been restored to show different periods of the railway's life, so you’ll be taking a trip through time as you travel between 1960s East Grinstead and 1920s Sheffield Park.

On the day you’ll also make your way to Wakehurst, Kew’s wild botanic garden in Sussex. With over 500 acres of beautiful ornamental gardens, woodlands and nature reserve, take a stroll through the stunning landscape admiring the gardens, Mansion and collections that make Wakehurst internationally renowned. Wakehurst is also home to the Millennium Seed Bank, the largest wild seed conservation project in the world where you can watch scientists at work.

What's Included?

  • Take a trip for two up and down a heritage railway line on The Bluebell Railway
  • See some lovingly restored steam trains, both in use and at one of the largest collections in the UK
  • Entry for two to Wakehurst, Kew's wild botanic garden in Sussex
  • Personalised voucher and message card
  • Cancellation indemnity

What happens on the day?

You can enjoy this experience in any order, but you will need to drive between the two sites, either starting at Wakehurst and moving to the Bluebell Railway or setting off with steam trains before wandering through the picturesque botanic gardens. You can spend as long as you like at either attraction at the discretion of the railway and Wakehurst, but we think you’ll want 3 to 4 hours at Wakehurst and up to 2 hours at the Bluebell Railway.

There is a café and restaurant at Wakehurst for refreshment during the day (at an additional cost) and dining options you can pre-book on the Bluebell Railway. However, you’re more than welcome to bring your own food to both – gardens are the perfect place to bring a picnic.
