Feel the adrenaline rush as you take the controls of your light aircraft and soar across the sky with this Introductory Flying Lesson.

You’ll receive one-to-one training with a Civil Aviation Authority licensed instructor and will spend up to 30 minutes in the air (including taxiing and landing). What you learn will depend on your chosen location but all participants receive flying time that counts towards a Private Pilot's licence.

One thing's for sure, this promises to be an adventure that is nothing short of extraordinary.

What's Included?

  • One-to-one training from a CAA licensed instructor in a 2-seater aircraft
  • 30 minutes flying time with the opportunity to take the controls
  • Personalised voucher and message card
We’re working with our experience partners to ensure we’re adhering to government advice as it updates. Please check with the supplier at time of booking for their individual recommendations.

Your voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of issue, while government restrictions apply in relation to Covid-19 we are offering free extensions on all experiences so you can take your experience when the time is right.

What happens on the day?

Your flying lesson starts with a pre-flight briefing from your qualified instructor. This will cover safety, and an introduction to some of the controls.

Once in the plane, you are given headphones so that you can hear conversations between your instructor and air traffic control. You will also be able to communicate with each other so you can be guided through your first lesson. Once in the air, you will be able to take the controls but your pilot will take over to land the plane at the airfield and taxi back.

Participant guidelines

  • Minimum height: 4ft 10in
  • Maximum height:  6ft 4in

Flying lessons take place all year round and are normally available on any day of the week. Availability varies by venue.

We recommend you book at least four weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. This is only a guideline and we advise you to book as early as possible to ensure that dates are available before the expiry date listed on your voucher.  All bookings are subject to availability.

Please note that with Almat Flying Academy, a fuel surcharge will be required for from £4.40 (for 15 minutes) to £17.22 (for an hour)

You should allow 1 hour for your whole experience, but the flight (from taxi to landing) will last approximately 25-30 minutes.

"A wonderful afternoon!"

Highly recommended introductory flying lesson. Given to me by my 3 sons to mark a "significant" birthday. A complete surprise. I'm still buzzing 24 hours later! Very well looked after by Lydd Aero Club. Thank you very much.

This was a great experience. The only critism is that it took three calls before the booking could be made. The venue initially denied having any agreement with experiences last

"a great experience"

We took the introductory flying lesson at Shoreham-by-Sea, and I have to say it was a fantastic experience. The experience was exhilarating, a little scary but a lot of fun. The staff and instructor were very welcoming and helped make this an experience we won't forget. Strongly recommended - though I'd go for the extended flight, as it's all over far too quickly in half an hour!
